Ellen DeGeneres

String Art on Wooden Canvas, 2016

This project was an independent project based on a trend seen on Pinterest and other social media platforms: string art. I developed an interest in this trend and wanted to replicate it myself to try new techniques and styles of creating art. This resulted in a Pop Art style string artwork of comedian and talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, on an A2 wooden canvas.

The biggest challenge of this project was that I had underestimated how time-consuming a technique such as string art would be, especially on the scale of an A2 canvas. The process could be slow and frustrating at times to complete this project as there was a lot of string spontaneously untangling itself after a lot of time wrapping around the nails as well as a lot of accidental thumb hits with the hammer when putting nails into the board. A project I naively thought would be a couple of days work ended up being a week and a half but I am glad that I pushed through the injuries and frustration as it was a great experience to learn something new that I wouldn’t have tried otherwise and the end result was worth the wait.
